Q. I am having difficulty with the booking form and completing my reservation – how do I troubleshoot?
A. Please see our detailed Post about Help with Common Booking Issues.
Half Day – 6:30AM Departures?
Q. I want to do a ½ Day- Day Trip to Lāna‘i and depart at 6:30AM. What are my options?
A. Tips for the 6:30am Departure – Decide how you would like to fill your time between when the Ferry arrives at 7:45+am and the Cat Sanctuary opening at 10:00am.
Since the Cat Sanctuary is not open when you arrive you have the option of:
• Cats Only – Take the Shuttle to the Cat Sanctuary arriving around 8:30-8:45am. Wait until outer gate opens around 9:00am then wait at gazebo until they open the door into the enclosure. Note – #1 The scheduled opening time is 10:00am but the staff is opening earlier if the enclosure area is ready for visitors and guests are waiting, #2 The Cat Sanctuary is in a very “rural/isolated” spot so there is nothing close to walk to. No food/drinks are available at the Cat Sanctuary. Many guests pack their own lunch/snacks.
• Lanai Cat Sanctuary – Ferry, Cats ONLY 6:30AM-1:00PM
• Harbor or Beach First – Staying at Harbor and visiting the General Store that offers coffee, drinks, grab & go. There are park benches at the Harbor or walk to Hulopoe Beach – then have shuttle van pick up for transfer to Cat Sanctuary 9:45.
• Lanai Cat Sanctuary – Ferry, Beach/Harbor & Cats 6:30AM-1:00PM
• Town for Breakfast – Visit Town for Breakfast – add a third transfer to Town and eat breakfast at Blue Ginger, Ganotisi’s and/or visit Coffee Works for a specialty coffee. Note: Blue Ginger only accepts cash. Then transfer from Town at 9:45-10:15am to Cat Sanctuary.
• Lanai Cat Sanctuary – Ferry, Town & Cats 6:30AM-1:00PM
Tip – Check out our Restaurant Guide and Shopping Guide for Lanai City (Town).
• Pick up time from the Cat Sanctuary for the transfer back to the Harbor for the 1:00pm Ferry return is at 11:30am.
Half Day – 11:00AM Departures?
Q. I want to do a ½ Day- Day Trip to Lāna‘i and depart at 11:00AM. What are my options?
A. Tip 11:00am Depart – Decide if you would like to go to Town after the Cat Sanctuary closes at 3:00pm or do Cats Only straight and back to the Beach or Harbor at closing time.
• Cats Only – On arrival check in with the Shuttle drivers for your transfer to the cat Sanctuary arriving around 12:45pm. Visit the Cat Sanctuary until 3:00pm closing time. Then transfer back to the Harbor or be dropped at Hulopo’e Beach. Read more about Hulopo’e Beach HERE. Note: if you are dropped at the Beach you will need to walk back to the Harbor for your 5:30pm ferry departure. The Beach is a short 10min – 4/10ths of a mile walk from the Harbor.
• Lanai Cat Sanctuary – Ferry & Cats Only 11:00AM-5:30PM Stay till Close
• Cats & Town – On arrival check in with the Shuttle drivers for your transfer to the cat Sanctuary arriving around 12:45pm. Visit the Cat Sanctuary until 3:00pm closing time. Then transfer to Town (Lanai City) arriving around 3:15pm. Visit Town for 1 hour until your 4:15pm transfer back to the Harbor for your 5:30pm ferry departure. Note: Drop Off and Pick Up point in Town is at the flagpole located in front of the old Dole Admin Building where Lanai Culture and Heritage Center is located
How far is the Beach from the Harbor?
Q. How far is the walk between the Beach and Harbor?
A. A short 10-15 min/4/10ths of a mile walk. Please check out our Post on Hulopoe Beach for more tips & information.
Full Day – What are my Options?
Q. I want to do a Full Day – Day Trip to Lāna‘I, departing at 6:30AM and returning at 5:30PM. What are my options?
A. Tip #1 Full Day – Decide how you would like to fill your time between when the Ferry arrives at 7:45+am and the Cat Sanctuary opening at 10:00am.

Note – #1 The scheduled opening time is 10:00am but the staff is opening earlier if the enclosure area is ready for visitors and guests are waiting, #2 The Cat Sanctuary is in a very “rural/isolate” spot so there is nothing close to walk to. No food/drinks are available at the Cat Sanctuary. Many guests pack their own lunch/snacks.
• Cats Only 6:30AM-5:30PM Stay till Close
• Beach First – Visiting Hulopoe Beach – The Beach is a short 10 min walk from the Harbor – one option is to walk to the Beach then have shuttle van pick up for transfer to Cat Sanctuary 9:45am.

• Town for Breakfast – Visit Town for Breakfast – add a third transfer to Town and eat breakfast at Blue Ginger, Gannotisi’s, Hotel Lanai, No Ka Oi or visit Coffee Works for a specialty coffee. We have added an itinerary includes Town twice, once in the morning for Breakfast and then early afternoon for Lunch and Shopping.
• Ferry, Town, Cats & Beach 6:30AM-5:30PM
Tip – Check out our Lanai Restaurant Guide & Lanai Shopping Guide
How much Cat Time?
Full Day – What are my Options? “continued”
Tip #2 Full Day – Decide How long to stay at the Cat Sanctuary and if you would like to add Town or the Beach in the afternoon.
There is a shuttle pick up for Town or the Beach at 1:00pm and final pickup when the Cat Sanctuary closes at 3:00pm.
So, your options are:
• Stay till Close – Stay from the 10:00am opening time until the closing time of 3:00pm. No food/drinks are available at the Cat Sanctuary. Many guests pack their own lunch/snacks.
• Cats Only 6:30AM-5:30PM Stay till Close
• Town Visit – Pick-up time of approximately 1:00pm from the Cat Sanctuary for your transfer to Town then your final transfer to the Harbor at 4:15pm for your 5:30pm ferry departure back to Maui. Mahalo,
Brad/Lost on Lāna‘i
Hi Bradley-
getting ready to book and I have a question: my husband likes to snorkel. If we select option #2, cat sanctuary, transfer to Lanai City and transfer to Hulopo’e Beach, is there any snorkeling there? Note: he would do the transfer, I would stay and cruise around Lanai City. Meeting back up at the 4:30pm ferry. I have told him he would have to drag his gear to the sanctuary and then walk to the ferry…Mahalo
Aloha Cathy,
Many thanks for the questions!
1. Snorkeling – yes there is great snorkeling at the beach! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g29219-d288293-r190615987-Hulopoe_Beach-Lanai_Hawaii.html
2. Extra Transfers – If you split up you will only need one extra transfer at $12.
A. Itinerary would look like:
9:15 Depart Lahaina
10:00 Arrive Lanai & transfer to Cat Sanctuary
12:45 PU – Drop Cathy in Town and then proceed to Beach Drop.
3:30 Pick Cathy Up for 4:30pm ferry – walk to Harbor meet 4:30 departure
B. Reverse – Early Morning Itinerary
6:45 Depart Lahaina
7:30 Arrive Lanai and walk to Beach
9:30-45 Walk back to Harbor & Meet 10:00am Ferry
10:45-12:45 Visit Cat Sanctuary
12:45 Pu (2 extra transfers for each of your) Transfer to Town
3:30 PU for 4:30 Ferry
Option 2 is very doable – just a long day.
Hope that this helps & please holler back via email with more questions: [email protected]
Mahalo,
Brad/Lost on Lanai
Aloha-Cathy Allee again. My husband has other questions: are there more than the 12:45pm and 3pm shuttles from the Cat Sanctuary? Can we do the trip in reverse, but arrive on the early ferry, walk to the beach, allow hubby to snorkel for 2-3 hours and then catch a shuttle to the Cat Sanctuary until 3pm and then into Lanai City at 3pm and back on the last ferry at the end of the day. ( I think this sounds like too much) Mahalo once again, Cathy

Mahalo,
Brad/Lost on Lanai
Aloha Brad-thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly!! And we will be going with option A, with three transfers, so I am booking that now! See you (or someone) in May!
Mahalo, Cathy Allee
We spent two hours at the Cat Sanctuary (10:45am-12:45pm) and then did an additional transfer to Lanai City for Lunch at the Cafe 565 and shopping. Visited the Cultural Center museum. Our driver was Pierce. He was always on time and very helpful. We were very impressed with how the entire trip came off without any problems. Even got to meet Mike and Kat at the art gallery. We give the whole experience two thumbs up! Also, the cats were puuuurrrfect. So friendly and loving.
Aloha Dr. Baker,
Many thanks for your booking & comments! We love getting feedback and are so glad that you enjoyed your visit and were able to meet Mike and Kathy at the Gallery. They were our neighbors for seven years on Lāna‘i. We will also be sure to share your feedback with Pierce.
Again many thanks for your booking & sharing your comments!
With Aloha,
Brad/Lost on Lāna‘i
