Maui Ocean Center Receives a TripAdvisor 2018 Travelers’ Choice Award
The Maui Ocean Center has always ranked high on our list of recommended activities. So it is nice to see them recognized as one of the Top 10 Aquariums in the World” by TripAdvisor 2018 Travelers’ Choice Award.
A recent article by the Travel Week Group provides more information on the Award. They share the following information about the Maui Ocean Center, also known as The Aquarium of Hawai’i, which was recently recognized as one of the “Top 10 Aquariums in the World” in TripAdvisor’s 2018 Travelers’ Choice Awards. The renowned travel platform bases its annual awards on an algorithm analyzing the quantity and quality of reviews. Maui Ocean Center ranked number 8 among the top aquariums, accompanied by renowned facilities like the Georgia Aquarium and Monterey Bay Aquarium. Approximately 85% of the aquarium’s TripAdvisor reviewers awarded 4 or 5 out of 5 stars.
“We are honored to be named one of the Top 10 Aquariums globally,” remarked General Manager Tapani Vuori. “Our passionate and dedicated team works diligently to connect our mission with memorable guest experiences which foster ocean understanding and conservation. The overwhelmingly positive guest feedback is a testament to their phenomenal efforts, and they deserve full credit for this remarkable achievement.”
Maui Ocean Center exclusively showcases native Hawaiian marine animals while emphasizing the intrinsic relationship between Hawaiian culture and the life-giving sea. Renowned exhibits feature the world’s largest live display of Hawaiian corals and diverse marine species like sharks, turtles, stingrays, and more found nowhere else on Earth. Guests can embark on an immersive journey through the aquarium’s acrylic underwater tunnel in the Open Ocean exhibit with reef sharks and vibrant reef ecosystems encircling them.
The recently debuted Humpbacks of Hawaiʻi exhibit utilizes cutting-edge technology like 3D displays for awe-inspiring, virtual whale encounters based on real Hawaiian humpback behaviors and characteristics. This innovative exhibit is the first of its kind in the world. Cultural activities, naturalist presentations, the Shark Dive Maui program, and behind-the-scenes educational tours further contribute to Maui Ocean Center’s global recognition for outstanding guest experiences connected to marine science and stewardship.
The TripAdvisor honor is the most recent in ongoing praise accumulated by Maui Ocean Center within the past decade. Other accolades also bestowed by TripAdvisor include placements among the “Top 25 Best Aquariums in the U.S.” and the “Top 15 Aquariums in the USA You Need to Experience.” The aquarium was also inducted into TripAdvisor’s prestigious Hall of Fame, which recognizes businesses that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on their platform. Maui Ocean Center additionally earned the titles of “Best Children’s Activity on Maui” by MauiTime Weekly readers and “Top-Rated Attraction in Hawaiʻi” from the Zagat Survey US Family Travel Guide.
