Description
Visitors come from around the world to explore the summit of Haleakala, Maui’s large dormant volcano. The views are breathtaking, the landscape other-worldly, and if you want a break from the heat, it’s the perfect place to go. Hike Haleakala and learn about the biology, geology, history and more!
An amazing 11.2 mile trek down Sliding Sands Trail, through the crater and back up Halemau’u trail.
Haleakala Hiking: take amazing photos and get some exercise while learning all about the island. Before returning to the valley, we’ll stop at Kula Marketplace where local artistry and good food abound.
This tour includes a picnic lunch, snacks, and drinks. Bring your own re-usable water bottle if you have one.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: This hiking tour is for physically fit and experienced hikers only. Guests MUST be able to hike unassisted on varied and rough terrain for 6 to 7 hours, starting at 10,000ft, with an elevation loss of 3,000ft, then an elevation gain of 1,500ft. The temperatures can vary between 30 degrees with wind chill to 85 hot & steamy degrees, and the weather can go from sunny and hot to freezing pouring rain in a matter of minutes. Guest MUST wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, layered synthetic clothing (no cotton, no blue jeans), have a rain jacket, a sweater/hoodie, a hat, and carry a backpack with their pack lunch and AT LEAST 2 liters of water per person—there is a water refill station at the lower visitor center. We provide snacks, picnic lunch, extra water bottles, and hiking poles. If you need a backpack or another piece of equipment, let us know in advance so we can make arrangements.
For safety reasons, we fully reserve the right to modify the hiking plan at anytime before or during the tour, and go on two in-and-out hikes (instead of the long 7-hour hike) if we consider that a guest does not have the proper equipment or required physical condition to complete the long hike.
